Friends of Children with Special Needs (FCSN) was founded by a group of immigrants who originally came from Taiwan and Hong Kong. They also have children with developmental disabilities. These Chinese Americans shared the same cultural background and wanted to help others in the Bay Area; they founded FCSN in 1996 and their vision was to build a community for people with special needs. They started “Dream Project” in 2000 with the goal of building a community center; and after several years of hard work, their Dream Center in Fremont was built and opened in 2006. FCSN expanded quickly and proceeded to build more than 40 different programs. Today, FCSN has 3 centers, 130 paid staff, over 1000 family members, and serves hundreds of children and clients in the Bay Area.
