53 Ella Ai-Vy Nguyen

Father Paul Chương Nguyễn, a beloved Catholic priest, helped many find sanctuary. He was a man of God, a hero, and a friend, but to me, he was “Cậu Chương”- my funny, wise, and supportive uncle. In Vietnamese, “Cậu” means uncle. In 1975, Cậu Chương escaped Vietnam, finding freedom in America. He paved the way for me to live a better life. He embodies- “All of us belong here” as he brought people together through laughter. His lifelong mission was to help the poor. Cậu Chương volunteered in medical missions in Vietnam. In America, he led projects for the underserved in all communities. Sadly, Cậu Chương passed away in 2023, but his actions live on in my heart. He showed the world that we all belong together, but we must support each other by having the courage to reach out. Cậu Chương made me the person I am today.
