#21. Maximillian Park, My Gift to America
This is the story of Mrs. SangYeon Lee, who is an amazing inspiration for the Korean community. She is the principal of Francisco Middle School in San Francisco and principal of Mukunghwa Korean School in Richmond. She was an early teacher and assistant principal at Claire Lilienthal Alternative School’s KIP, the only Korean immersion program in Northern California. She helped establish this unique program to help immigrant families adapt to life in America. She wanted to build a bridge for immigrant children living in America to their family’s culture, and to help families create a new community for themselves. As a KIP student, I met many friends and learned so much about my family’s Korean culture. Principal Lee continues her important mission to help Korean families find their own community at Mukunghwa Korean School, which brings Korean language and cultural education to a new generation of children every Saturday.
