#38. Chinese Hospital, My Gift to America
For over 125 years, Chinese Hospital has protected the community through every public health crisis. In 1899, Chinese Hospital was established when Chinese immigrants were denied healthcare. When the bubonic plague hit, we stood strong, safeguarded our community. In 2020, when COVID-19 threatened our city, we stepped up again—providing testing, treatment, and vaccinations, fighting misinformation, and ensuring language access. Our efforts safeguarded our community again, Chinatown had the lowest infection and death rates in the region—despite being one of the most densely populated areas in the nation. Chinese Hospital is more than a place of healing—it’s a symbol of resilience, hope, and unity.
