#59. Max Tsai, My Gift to America
Bettering Myself: My Gift to America
I used to be reckless—rebellious, lost, and caught up in things that pulled me away from the person I wanted to be. My parents, who immigrated from Taiwan, sacrificed everything to give me a better life, but I didn’t appreciate it. That changed as I matured and found faith. Joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gave me purpose. I learned what creates true happiness and joy. I let go of my past and committed to becoming someone my parents—and my country—could be proud of. America gave my family the chance to dream. My gift in return is striving every day to be better—to contribute, to lift others, and to honor the sacrifices that made my life possible. I’m still a work in progress, but I know a better me means a better America. That’s a gift worth giving.
