#76. Dougherty Valley Vietnamese Student Association
At Dougherty Valley High School, Vietnamese students are few and far between. Finding familiarity within our predominantly Asian school isn’t too difficult, but even then, there’s only so much we can relate to with our peers until the differences in culture become apparent. Thus, the Vietnamese Student Association was created in 2023 to foster a safe environment for students just like us, those who may have felt lost and disconnected from their roots, and for those who wanted to explore new cultures . Being the minority at a minority school, it’s crucial that we continue to take pride in our culture and share with others to correct the ignorance of the past. As the first and only Vietnamese club in our school district among 37 schools and 29,680 students, we aim to set an example for those who are looking to build community in their own schools.
