66 Sophia Cheng

I’ve never been afraid of the camera. Since I’m an only child, my parents photographed me often. They immigrated from China in order to provide a better education and life for me, and I grew up with a natural love for reading. To nurture my passion, they signed me up for writing classes and encouraged me to participate in school writing contests. As I grew older, I realized that I could do more with my words than just creating fantasy stories; I joined my school newspaper and began writing in order to tell my story and the stories of people around me. Through journalism, I learned how to ask questions, tell a compelling story, and use my words for real impact in my community. Now, as a Youth Ambassador volunteer for DingDing TV, I can promote Asian American storytelling and uplift Asian youth voices.
