#44. Ghino Lee, My Gift to America
I wanted to highlight the sacrifices my mother makes to not only benefit her immediate family but also the world around her. My mom, at her office, advocates for immigrants who don’t speak English, helping them translate legal documents and representing them to make sure they don’t get taken advantage of. Through her decades long experience in the field, my mother had recognized that not everyone would have the resources to come to her office for her services. My mom henceforth started a YouTube channel to democratize legal assistance for the Korean elderly community. Despite her technological illiteracy she managed to watch tutorials online on how to record, edit, and upload her own videos. These videos cover step-by-step instructions for how someone might find senior housing, or make sure they receive their social security benefits–in Korean. My mother’s selflessness, drive, and curiosity inspire me to become a better person everyday.
