I Never Felt I Belonged” tells my personal story growing up in a white Caucasian world where I knew I was different from my neighbors and classmates. My parents said I refused to listen or answer when they spoke to me in Chinese like I didn’t want anything to do with being Chinese. Luckily we moved to Oakland forcing me into a Chinese world and at UC Berkeley through Chinese friendships, finally learned to appreciate my Chinese heritage. I am proud to say not only do I now embrace my being Chinese but shout loudly and proudly telling the world about the many contributions Chinese have made to America’s history. Telling my personal accomplishments in the video showed my pride in being Chinese today to finally acknowledge I may look different but all of us belong here in America.
