60 The Abalone Village

Shidai Media recommends By Min Zhou I am using this documentary to commemorate my friend Gerry Low-Sabado, even though I only met her once in her lifetime. But her life illuminated mine. Her passion ignited the passions of thousands. Gerry was a fifth-generation descendant of Chinese immigrants in the fishing village of Monterey Bay, California. This village was once the cultural center of Monterey Bay. Still, it was burned down in a large fire in May 1906, marking the beginning of the Chinese expulsion from the commercial fishing industry in California. I hope this film documents the history of Chinese fishermen being marginalized, preventing the tragedy from happening again.
