56 Quyen Vuong
My name is Quyen Vuong. I was born and raised in Saigon, South Vietnam. Saigon fell in 1975 when I was 10. At the age of 16, I escaped Vietnam in search of freedom and safety. My younger brother and I ended up in Pulau Bidong refugee camp in Malaysia. In America, we kids used to work 30 hours a week after school to help pay rent. After graduating from Yale, I went back to work in the Vietnamese refugee camp in Hong Kong. I attended Stanford Graduate School of Business and later co-founded ICAN with 2 other Vietnamese refugees. Our mission was to raise the next generation of caring leaders. Today ICAN serves 5000 clients from different ethnic backgrounds in Santa Clara County every year. We bring families and communities together. The roots of ICAN are in the compassion in our community. All of us belong here. There’s no going back.
